Heavy Traffic Halts Tour de Filipinas Opener
18 February 2016
Race: Le Tour de Filipinas, Stage 1
Start/Finish: Antipolo City / Lucena City
Distance:153 kilometers
There was no winner on Thursday’s stage one of the Le Tour de Filipinas as organizers were forced to neutralize the race due to heavy traffic caused by repairs on a 500m stretch of road in Tiaong. Today marks the first time in the Tour’s seven editions that a stage had to be halted.
“The race was called with about 35km to go,” Team Novo Nordisk Sport Director Massimo Podezana says. “At that time, Scott Ambrose was among 25 riders out in front. Our riders worked well worked for Scott, and he would have been in good position for the final kilometers. But I fully support the decision of the race to cancel the stage as the riders were unable to continue.”
Team Novo Nordisk resumes racing later today in Stage 2 of Portugal’s Volta ao Algarve em Bicicletao.
