Race: Tour de Pologne, Stage 6
Start/Finish: Bukovina Resort / Bukowina Tatrzańska, Poland
Distance: 194 kilometers
Bukowina Tatrzańska, Poland — Following Saturday’s epic stage of the Tour de Pologne that saw nearly 50 perfect of the field withdraw, Stage 6 initially was shortened from five laps to three laps due to continuing rains. Following many delays, the 194-kilometer stage was again shortened to only two 38.9-km laps. After a nearly four-hour delay, the riders set out on course. The weather conditions continued deteriorating during the lap and the peloton raced slowly and remained together. During that lap, the peloton raised their concern about their safety and race officials decided to cancel the remainder of the stage.
“Stage 6 was canceled today because of extreme weather conditions. It was foggy; it was rainy and after only 30 kilometers, riders asked officials to cancel the stage,” Team Novo Nordisk’s Vassili Davidenko said. “For us, it is another day behind our back. We were ready for this stage but safety first. Tomorrow is the final stage, a time trial, and we will see how we do.”
The Tour de Pologne finishes in Krakow on Monday with an out-and-back 25-km time trial. Currently, morning rain showers are predicted but otherwise dry conditions are expected. The first rider is slated to go off at 15h local time.
