Team Novo Nordisk – 2018 Highlights

Team Novo Nordisk had an amazing 2018, racing across the globe to inspire, educate and empower everyone affected by diabetes!
2018 marked our most successful season yet! This year the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team earned more podiums, results and jerseys than any other year in our 6-year history!
Check out some of our highlights from 2017!
January
After racing five seasons in a predominantly white kit, the 2018 season will see Team Novo Nordisk racing in a navy blue GSG-designed jersey that features a light blue circle and the words Changing Diabetes across the front.
February
In February, an impressive ride in the breakaway by Quentin Valognes on the final stage of the Dubai Tour helped the young Frenchman secure the overall UAE Intermediate Sprint Classification jersey.
Team Novo Nordisk made its mark at the WT Abu Dhabi Tour with appearances in the breakaway on 9 of 10 stages.
March
In March, Charles Planet rode in the main breakaway at the 109thedition of Milan-San Remo, putting a rider with diabetes in the break at the longest one-day race in the world for four consecutive years.
April
In April, David Lozano finished in the top 20 overall at the 2018 Tour of Croatia, while the TNN squad was fortunate to connect with children from the local diabetes group ‘Slatki Samoborci’.
May
In May, David Lozano and Charles Planet finished 5th and 8th in the Tour of Estonia general classification respectively, marking the first time two Team Novo Nordisk finished top 10 in a race overall.
Team Novo Nordisk’s David Lozano wore the Mountain Points Leader’s jersey on stage 3 of Vuelta Aragon, after a solid performance in the breakaway on stage 2.
June
In June, Team Novo Nordisk celebrated Diabetes Week in the UK with Pedal for 7, a weeklong bike ride from Newcastle to the Novo Nordisk diabetes research center in Oxford.
On June 3, Team Novo Nordisk helped the United Nations celebrate World Bicycle Day at the UN Headquarters in New York City. Phil Southerland joined UN leaders and diplomats, cycle advocates, athletes, and other cycling organizations to give speeches highlighting the uniqueness, longevity, and versatility of the bicycle.
July
On the eve of our Prudential RideLondon Surrey Classic debut, Team Novo Nordisk hosted more than two dozen people affected by diabetes and their extended families at an intimate meet n’greet. We are honored to be part of such an incredible community!
In July, Team Novo Nordisk held our 2018 Talent ID Camp, where twenty-six young, all-diabetes cyclists from 16 countries traveled to Athens, Georgia, to chase their dreams of being a pro cyclist and to find out if they have what it takes to ride with TNN.
August
In August, Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, earned a historic win when David Lozano soloed to victory on Stage 7 at the Tour du Rwanda. This win marks the team’s second victory in its six-year history.
Charles Planet shined in the PostNord Danmark Rundt Stage 3 breakaway, taking maximum points in the hill classification and earning the Julemaerkefonden Fighter Jersey.
September
In September, Team Novo Nordisk was fortunate to be represented at the 2018 EASD Conference in Berlin, showing the delegates what’s possible for athletes with diabetes to achieve.
October
In October, Team Novo Nordisk’s Sam Brand showed the Changing Diabetes jersey in the breakaway and helped set the record straight for people with diabetes.
November
In November, Team Novo Nordisk celebrated 2018 World Diabetes Day by thanking family members for supporting them on his journey with diabetes.
December
In December, Team Novo Nordisk revealed its 2019 team roster and updated jersey for the new season.
