Team Novo Nordisk restarts the 2020 season with the Circuito de Getxo
31 July 2020
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first and only all-diabetes professional cycling team, will race for the first time in the Basque Country on the 2nd of August, participating in the 75th edition of the Circuito de Getxo-Memorial Hermanos Otxoa.
David Lozano, the only Spanish rider in the team, can’t wait to be back in the saddle and above all racing on home ground when the team kick off the season once again on Sunday.
”Since we came back from Tour du Rwanda and during the whole lockdown, I have been wondering which would be the first race” said David Lozano. ”Restarting the season in Spain, with the Circuito de Getxo, is quite special and brings the motivation up even more.”
In Spain approximately 14% of the population suffers from diabetes, representing almost 6 million of people. In the Basque Country specifically, there are around 200,000 people who live with this condition and many of them consider diabetes an obstacle to sports and physical activity.
”As a team, we want to show what’s possible with diabetes and empower everyone living with it” said the Sport Director Massimo Podenzana, who will lead the team in Getxo. ”The past months have been hard for everyone but the guys kept the focus and have continued training at home during the lockdown. We come from two weeks of training in the Dolomites and they are ready to show what we are capable of”.
