Don’t let anyone label you as just a ‘diabetic athlete’. You are much more than that and capable of anything you set your mind to.

PROFILE

A 21-year-old cyclist from Kettering, England, Josh lives with his parents and younger sister, none of whom have diabetes, and he grew up with a love for outdoor activities. Josh’s journey with cycling began in 2012 after his father bought a road bike inspired by Bradley Wiggins’ Tour de France victory. Josh got his first road bike in 2015 and started competing two years later.

At 17, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Josh was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after experiencing sudden performance issues and weight loss. The diagnosis was a shock, but with strong support from his family, friends, and coach, he didn’t let it deter him. His coach introduced him to Team Novo Nordisk, a team of athletes who also have type 1 diabetes, leading Josh to participate in their 2020 virtual Talent ID Camp.

Joining Team Novo Nordisk in 2022 gave Josh’s cycling career a renewed sense of purpose. His most significant achievement to date is finishing his first UCI stage race, a milestone that he found particularly challenging and rewarding.

When not training or racing, Josh enjoys film, music, TV, and spending time in coffee shops.
