Team Novo Nordisk enter seasons home straight at GP de Fourmies
10 September 2021
The French adventure continues for the world’s first all diabetes professional cycling team at the upcoming GP de Fourmies/La Voix du Nord as the season begins to draw a close and the opportunities start.
Old and steeped in history, GP de Fourmies was first held back in 1928 and is traditionally a sprinters race with its flat 200 kilometer parcours in and around the commune of Fourmies in Northern France.
An injury hit and challenging 2021 has again forced the hand of change with American first year pro Logan Phippen coming in for the experienced Peter Kusztor who crashed out of last weekend’s Tour du Jura with Italian Andrea Peron recovering in time to make the squad.
“Every season has it’s challenges and obstacles,” said General Manager Vassili Davidenko. “And it is important to overcome them. 2021 has been particularly difficult and we are definitely testing the depth of our squad. GP de Fourmies will be our last French race of this season and we will be looking to David Lozano and also Andrea for a similar performance as last week’s Tour du Jura.”
“Top 25 was a fantastic result in such a challenging race and we know that we have the capability to be up there again. Lucas Dauge impressed with his fighting spirit in his first races with the team and we hope that this is the start of an upward curve that will continue into our next races.”
Italian rouleur Umberto Poli and Swiss counterpart Oliver Behringer both line-up in support of Lozano and Peron alongside the consistent presence of Manxman Sam Brand to complete the team.
“It took a lot of work from the team to finish well at the Tour du Jura,” said Lozano. “But it was worth it, for the positivity, the team spirit and to show that we can be up there at the pointy end in tough, hilly races.”
“GP de Fourmies will be a different proposition with the flatter route, but it would be great if we could produce another good result. We’ve got three races left now with Okolo Slovenska next week and the Cro-Race at the end of the month and we need to give our maximum effort and stay focused.”
