Mandy Marquardt wins silver and bronze and sets new national records at Pan American Championships

Mandy Marquardt medaled in two events, and set two new national records at the Pan American Championships, held in San Juan, Argentina, June 14-18. The Team Novo Nordisk rider is now a 8-time Pan American Championship Track Medalist, and the holder of six national records, in the Women’s 1km TT (2020), Women’s 500m TT (2023), Women’s 250m TT (2023), two-rider Team Sprint (2018), three-rider Team Sprint outdoor 1000m (2022), and three-rider Team Sprint on indoor 750m – the Olympic standard (2022).

Marquardt won the silver medal in the Women’s Time Trial, clocking a time of 33.797 over the 500m distance, besting her own national record. In the same event, she also set a new national record for the 250m split with a time of 19.343. Along with her Team USA team mates, she finished third in the Team Sprint where the team also set an unofficial national record.

Marquardt also gained valuable Olympic points and the Women’s Sprint team qualified Team USA for the Pan American Games, in Santiago, Chile, October 24 – 27.

“I am so excited to win bronze and set a new unofficial National Record in the Team Sprint and secure our spot for the Pan American Games in October. Really proud of how far the Women’s Sprint program has come in a short amount of time.” Marquardt said. “Due to lack of drug testing available that day, the National Record remains unofficial but I am looking forward to going even faster in our next competition.”

“I am also pleased to set the National Record in the 500m TT, beating my previous record. It’s good to see the hard work paying off and I’m happy with the continued progression.”

Marquardt also finished sixth in the Women’s Sprint and ninth in the Women’s Keirin.

A total of 179 riders from 20 nations competed at the new Vicente Alejo Chancay Velodrome, the largest indoor velodrome in South America for the Pan American Championships.

After a short break at home, Marquardt will return to Los Angeles to defend her titles at the USA Cycling National Track Championships, July 5-9 before heading to Glasgow, Scotland for the UCI Track World Championships, August 3-9.

“Onwards! The hard work continues as we build toward the World Championships in August,” Marquardt concluded.
