Kopecky 14th in wet n’ wild Sparkassen Münsterland Giro
Wild, wet and windy conditions in Germany made for an extremely hard day of racing at the Sparkassen Münsterland Girowith Matyas Kopecky 14th for Team Novo Nordisk.
Head sports director Massimo Podenzana:
“What a day that was. The heavy rain and wind at the start sparked echelons that resulted in a 30 rider attack and that was it…ten of them we never saw again until the finish.”
“I think the whole peloton found it hard today, the weather, the early climbs. You only need to look at how many of the field finished to tell you that and maybe some of the big teams who missed out on the early move realized the danger too late. But that’s how it played out and Matyas did well with the help of Filippo to stay at the front of the chasing peloton throughout and he finished very strongly.”
Matyas Kopecky:
“Really frustrating to be honest, I felt strong today and once or twice I thought it may come back especially when we caught the dropped half of the lead group, but the ten guys that had already attacked were maybe the strongest guys in the race. An elite group. So I didn’t hold much hope at that point.”“Filippo was amazing today, he helped me as much as possible in the bunch and I lost count of how many times he got bottles for me. We’ll look ahead to Turkey now and my aim is to keep the us form for the final push of the season.”
