Wattelle's Strong Finish Highlights Tour de Beauce Opener

The Tour de Beauce kicked off with a thrilling first stage, and Team Novo Nordisk Development Team had clear strategies in place: look for an early break right from the start or just after the second KOM, then ride together to support Celestin (Wattelle) for the field sprint. The team’s efforts paid off, demonstrating both skill and a bit of luck by staying clear of numerous crashes that marked the day.

Development Team General Manager Daniel Holt:

“Celestin delivered a great performance, staying at the front and out of trouble throughout the race. His efforts were rewarded with a top 10 finish in the field sprint of his group. Josh (Brown) also maintained a solid position within the group and played a crucial role in leading out Celestin for the sprint finish. His determination was evident, and he even managed to pick up some KOM points early in the race, proving his strength.”

“Overall, it was a solid showing for us on this first day of the race. The guys’ ability to navigate the course, stay clear of crashes, and work together, especially in support of Celestin, was great. We’re optimistic about the days ahead and look forward to more strong performances from our riders. Stay tuned for more updates as the race unfolds!”

Team Effort Shines Despite Setbacks on Day 2 in Canada

The second stage of the Tour de Beauce came with a 164 km long route, challenging Team Novo Nordisk Development Team with varied terrain and a competitive field.

Development Team General Manager Daniel Holt:

“Today’s stage saw the team in high spirits and ready to execute our strategy. Knowing that the yellow jersey team would likely control the race, we planned to stick together at the front, focus on nutrition, and set up Celestin (Wattelle) for the final sprint.”

“Our riders performed well, maintaining strong positions throughout the day and ensuring they stayed hydrated and fueled. Unfortunately, Celestin got a flat tire with 10km to go at exactly the wrong time. I was happy to have everyone in the second on the road though.”

“Overall, it was a day of mixed fortunes, but our team set a positive tone for the rest of the Tour de Beauce.”

Conquering the Queen Stage of the Tour de Beauce

Today’s stage was the queen stage of the Tour de Beauce, featuring a challenging mountain top finish over 169km. The strategy for Team Novo Nordisk Development Team was clear: Josh (Brown), Louis-Marie (Posnic), and Evert (Schots ) would aim for the early break, while Celestin (Wattelle) and Hjalte (Knudsen) would conserve energy by staying in the main group, focusing on tomorrow’s criterium.

Development Team General Manager Daniel Holt:

“The guys did pretty well today. Josh managed to get into one of the early breaks, though not the one that lasted until the climb. They all did well to focus on nutrition today and called for me many times. Everyone raced smart today.”

“Overall, it was a solid performance by the team. They managed their energy well, and positioned themselves effectively. We are optimistic about their prospects in the upcoming criterium.”

Surviving the Turbulent Criterium at Tour de Beauce

The criterium stage of the Tour de Beauce was a high-paced and challenging race from the outset. The Team Novo Nordisk Development Teams‘s strategy was to stay hidden and conserve energy for the bunch sprint, given the course’s demanding nature with its 1km uphill grind and subsequent 1km descent, repeated over 35 laps.

Development Team General Manager Daniel Holt:

“I told the guys to try to hide as much as possible and wait for the sprint. It was a tough course, though, with a 1 km grinding hill and 1 km down. They needed to make it halfway without being lapped to get a prorated time and start the last stage the next day.”

“The race was very fast from the beginning. The leader’s team wasn’t that strong, so the other teams were attacking a lot, trying to break them. Also, there were several crashes in the opening laps of the race, making it tough at the back. Josh (Brown) and Hjalte (Knudsen) both went down, but luckily they are okay.”
