Feels like coming home

12 August 2024

Team Novo Nordisk return to ‘home’ race the PostNord Tour of Denmark this week with a strong team filled with youthful big ambitions and the excitement of racing against the biggest teams in the world.

Starting on Wednesday with a 13.7km Team Time Trial in Holstebro, the 2024 edition will crisscross the Danish peninsula over five days of racing before an exciting final stage close to Novo Nordisk HQ in Bagsværd.

Team captain Andrea Peron and emerging star Matyas Kopecky will lead the line for the world’s first all diabetes professional cycling team with breakaway specialist Filippo Ridolfo on the hunt for opportunities.

“Here we are again, the biggest moment of the for us, the PostNord Tour of Denmark,” began General Manager Vassili Davidenko. “This will be our 12th time competing at this race and it is always very special, not just for the team, but for our sponsors Novo Nordisk and Argon 18 with their Danish heritage. It’s basically our home race and the big highlight on our calendar every year.”

“Each race we take part in is important and our approach to do the best we can while trying to drive positive change in diabetes care around the world remains the same. Yet the significance of the Tour of Denmark is unique for us and all the supporters of the team. It gives us an added drive to do well and as we saw recently at the Arctic Race of Norway the boys are prepared, racing well and looking to give our all over the next five days of racing.”

Italian neo pro Alessandro Perracchione has impressed throughout his forts season with the team and completes the line-up alongside compatriot Antonio Polga, Kiwi pocket rocket Hamish Beadle and 23-year-old Brit Nathan Smith.

I am really really looking forward to race in Denmark again,” said Kopecky. “The last two years have been great for us there and we want to do even better than those years. Im feeling really good. Norway was a bit of a shock to the body after a break from racing and time at altitude, but I can feel that I needed it to try be at my best in Denmark.

“We don’t want to make a secret of our goals here in Demark, we’re aiming for a podium or even a win. We believe in ourselves and our sponsors and supporters believe in us too. It’s a huge privilege for us to be racing to inspire everyone affected by diabetes and we we aim to show that with a strong team performance we can do amazing things.”
