After their Tour of Bulgaria, the Team Novo Nordisk Development team continued racing with a two-day stage event, In the Footsteps of the Romans.
The highlight of the race came during the first stage, which featured a 126 km route with circuits. The team started with a clear plan: to take control of the race from the very beginning and assert themselves as the team to beat. They executed this strategy effectively, securing a TOP 3 finish.
Hamish (Armitt) was particularly active in the early part of the race. He managed to join the leading group several times, though only for short periods. However, his efforts were crucial in allowing Celestin (Wattelle) to remain well-positioned at the front of the pack, right up until the final 500 meters of the race.
Przemyslaw (Kotulski) stepped up in the last 5 km, delivering a standout performance that ensured the entire team remained in a strong position, setting the stage for a successful finish. Hjalte (Knudsen) also persevered and played a vital role in the lead-out.
Celestin has been in great shape over the last month, and he showed exactly why. Thanks to the hard work of his teammates, he was perfectly positioned for the final sprint, and his efforts paid off as he secured a spot on the podium.
“This was a great start for the team,” said sports director Sergey Lagutin. “We executed our plan well, and the results are a testament to the hard work and coordination of the entire squad.”
The race continued with the second stage, a 134 km route through the beautiful Bulgarian landscape.
The team once again demonstrated great teamwork, leading to a top 15 finish with Celestin coming in 14th. Although it wasn’t as strong as the previous day’s performance, it helped Celestin secure 4th place in the General Classification.
Overall, the race was a great success for Team Novo Nordisk Development Team.
