Marathon Taihu Lake Stage Ends in Mass Sprint
12 October 2018
Race: 2018 Tour of Taihu Lake, Stage 5
Location: Nantong / Haimen, China
Distance: 146.5 kilometers
HAIMEN, CHN – Team Novo Nordisk tackled the longest stage of the 2018 Tour of Taihu Lake on Friday, racing 146km from Nantong to Haimen in a fast and nervous stage five.
All TNN riders finished in the same time as stage winner Jakub Mareczko of Italy, crossing the line in just over three hours for an average speed of over 46km per hour.
The world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team now enters the final weekend of the Tour of Taihu Lake, with short, sharp stages to come on Saturday and Sunday. With just a few weeks left in the 2018 season, TNN is set to race later this month at the one-day Japan Cup north of Tokyo and the week-long Tour of Hainan off the southern coast of mainland China.
Oliver Behringer:
“Today was another fast day. It took us just over 3 hours to finish the 146km, and because it was so fast, no break got away for a long time. It came down to a bunch sprint, so we helped Charles to move up. Tomorrow’s the second to last day. 116km, and again flat, so it’s very likely to be a bunch sprint again; but we’re ready to race hard the next two days.”
