Becky Furuta Takes the Stage at TADTalk 2018
28 April 2018
On April 28, Team Novo Nordisk Ambassador Becky Furuta joined a prestigious group of diabetes thought-leaders at London’s Royal College of Physicians for TADTalk 2018.
TAD (Talking About Diabetes) Talks is a series of events which aims to “bring together individuals who have inspirational stories to share in the context of living with diabetes,” with a goal to inspire people to “think differently about diabetes”. Becky, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes while pregnant with her second child, took the stage to discuss pregnancy, exercise and managing diabetes.
“You can’t ride a bike competitively when you have type 1 diabetes and are pregnant.” That’s what Becky’s endocrinologist told her when she was diagnosed, so she fired them and found another doctor who encouraged her to keep cycling.
“When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I didn’t hear ‘no’,” Becky told the the TADTalk audience. “I just heard things just might be a bit more difficult. Now, my bike is still my favorite place to be in the world.”
Becky Furuta:
“There was an amazing sense of community at TADTalk 2018. Both [TNN Pro Cyclist] Sam Brand and I were honored to be a part of it. It was awesome to have my teammate there, supporting me and attending the event. I feel really lucky to be part of such a great community of inspiring people affected by diabetes.
We all feel really lucky to have the platform and the opportunity to share our experiences, and to learn from others living with diabetes.”
