La Baie, Quebec –
Kénogami, Quebec – Following yesterday’s brutally cold and rainy opening stage of the Grand Prix de Saguenay, the young Team Novo Nordisk squad fared better on Friday’s stage 2. “Today was more of a steady day for us,” said Team Novo Nordisk Sport Director Pavel Cherkasov. “All of our riders were able to stay in the main group, even in the midst of the peloton loosing riders at each lap. The final split happened on the last lap, and each of our guys finished in the small groups.”
“Today was a hard circuit with a steep climb just before the finish,” Team Novo Nordisk rider Kevin de Mesmaeker said. “The first two laps were at a crazy high tempo, but after that the peloton went easier for a while. In the end, I decide to give it a try, but I got unlucky, because my chain dropped off at the bottom of the climb. I did my best to minimize the ‘damage’, but I knew I missed my chance at a good result.”
