Full Gas Finale at Jayco Herald Sun Tour
07 February 2016
Race: Jayco Herald Sun Tour, Stage 4
Start/Finish: Arthurs Seat / Arthurs Seat, Australia
Distance: 121.8 kilometers
All of Team Novo Nordisk’s six-man squad completed their first Jayco Herald Sun Tour when the five-day race ended on Sunday. The 121.8-kilometer stage saw a four-man break escape early but they were only allowed a gap of less than two and a half minutes. All escapees were reeled in as the peloton ascended Arthurs Seat for the first of three climbs with Team Novo Nordisk’s Brian Kamstra making the front group. As the race headed up the climb a second time, Chris Froome (Team Sky) attacked and only Joe Cooper (Avanti IsoWhey Sports) was able to grab his wheel. The duo built a gap of less than a minute but on the final time up Arthurs Seat, Froome attacked and held on to take the stage win and seal the overall win.
“There were no breaks today. We went full gas down every descent immediately followed by a hard ascent. It was hot and it was hard,” Team Novo Nordisk’s Brian Kamstra (NED) said. “It was an exciting week to race officially as a professional with Team Novo Nordisk, and I was excited to wear the Changing Diabetes jersey and share the moment with my teammates.”
