Mandy Marquardt Races to Four Podiums at UCI T-Town Summer Games

Mandy Marquardt of Team Novo Nordisk raced to three silver medals and one bronze at the UCI T-Town Summer Games, a series of six events held at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania from June 10 to July 2, 2022.

“There’s nothing quite like summer in T-Town, where I had an awesome month training and racing at the UCI T-Town Summer Games amongst a powerhouse field of international women. I’m happy to find myself on the podium a few times with the help from the best support team,” said Marquardt.

Marquardt, who finished in the top four in all the events she entered, added “It was an intense, but a fun month of racing. I’m happy with my results and consistency in this racing block as I continue to build my engine toward the Elite Track Nationals and the Pan American Championships.”

The international women’s field included the Olympic Gold Medalist in the Keirin, Shanne Braspennincx of the Netherlands, the Olympic Silver Medalist in the Keirin, Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand, the 2018 World Keirin Champion Nicky Degrendele, of Belgium, and Nicole Hacohen Monteros of Guatemala.

“The race days at the track were long and the heat was unbearable, but I’m glad I had my ice vest. There’s little room for error when going through an entire sprint tournament and it’s crucial I stay on top of my diabetes management and nutrition,” Marquardt added.

Over the four weeks of racing, Marquardt set a personal best time in the 200m qualification heats on the T-Town track. She bettered her time from 11.159 in the first weekend to 11.043 in the fourth and final weekend of racing. “I set the track record for a few minutes each weekend, but it was bested both times by Shanne Braspennincx. It was bittersweet and so close by only hundreds of a second, but that is the world of track sprinting and I’m honored it was Shanne,” the reigning USA National Sprint and Keirin champion concluded.

June 25 – T-Town Summer Games: US Sprint GP (CL1 – Keirin) – 4th

July 1 – T-Town Summer Games: Discover Lehigh Valley GP (CL1 – Keirin) – 4th

July 2 – T-Town Summer Games: Discovery Lehigh Valley GP (CL1 – Sprint) – 2nd

The outdoor facility at T-Town, with its 333-meter concrete cycling track, held the six events over four weekends of racing. Next on the schedule is the 2022 USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships, July 27-31, 2022 and the Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru with USA Cycling, August 10-14, 2022.
