TT1 Set for Growth in 2018, Thanks to Auction Success

On October 13^th, Team Type 1 (TT1) hosted its annual fundraising event – The Auction for Life (AFL). Almost 400 people gathered in the Stave Room in Atlanta where they enjoyed a beautiful scenery, dinner, late night dancing and the most exciting auctions on Atlanta’s event scene! We are happy to report that the AFL’s success has poised TT1 to grow both its Global Ambassador and Sustainable Diabetes programs in 2018.

Hearing the inspiring stories of our speakers served as the evening’s highlight. Kathy Sego, mom to Global Ambassador Hunter Sego, told her son’s heartbreaking decision to ration his insulin because he knew his family couldn’t afford the life-sustaining drug, Hunter’s parents were unaware that he had made this decision. The family soon found TT1, and she explained how TT1’s support helped Hunter to overcome these challenges and that he now plays collegiate football at Depauw University.

Our second speaker was Isabella Thompson, who simply put is a force. At a young age, she started her own nonprofit to serve children around the globe. It is appropriately called Kids for the World. Isabella’s best friend Taylor has type 1 diabetes, and Isabella wanted to help. So, she confidently placed herself behind the podium, explained why she wanted to help her friend and announced that her foundation would donate $186 to Team Type 1. As she closed her speech, she challenged the rest of the room to match her gift, and they did just that!

Isabella’s moving tribute to her friend was the cornerstone of the Fund-A-Life pledge drive. In less than 10 minutes, AFL guests raised their paddles and donated more than $145, 000 in support of Team Type 1 programs!

If that’s not enough excitement for you, the evening also included a unique silent auction featuring everything from exotic wine to Xbox gaming systems to one-of-a-kind cycling experiences. The live auction’s items that drew the most attention were VIP passes to the winner’s choice of professional cycling races such as Milan-Sam Remo and the Abu Dhabi Tour, and private dinners catered by renowned chef Jerome Grilhot!

Sponsors and guests raised a record $330,000 for Team Type 1 programs. The 2018 Auction for Life dates will be announced in January. Stay tuned…You won’t want to miss it!
